BROOKFIELD, Wis. – North Shore Bank announced today that Thursday, September 1 at 5 p.m. it will unveil the next “Park in the Art” project, located in Wehmhoff Square Park in downtown Burlington.
Burlington City Administrator Carina Walters, North Shore Bank Vice President of Retail Banking and Burlington Park Board President Darrel Eisenhardt and others will attend the unveiling and dedication. This event is part of a larger sponsorship of BikeBurlington. As part of this sponsorship, the bank hosted voting on the design of this bike rack installation. The winning design, created by Master Blacksmith Darold Rinedollar, will be revealed at Thursday’s event.
“At North Shore Bank, we are very involved with our local communities,” said Robin Callis, branch manager at North Shore Bank in Burlington. “We are excited to be involved in such a unique project that will not only beautify our community but also be practical and advocate for our biking here in Burlington.”
Park in the Art is a design competition organized by BikeBurlington. Artists design and create a functional work of art that will serve as a bike rack accommodating six to eight bicycles. In July, North Shore Bank hosted a voting contest for the designer of its sponsored rack. For every vote cast, North Shore Bank donated $1 to Love, Inc., a Burlington nonprofit that serves disadvantaged families of western Racine County.
Based on the voting results, Master Blacksmith Darold Rinedollar was chosen to create this rack. Rinedollar has been practicing his craft for more than 60 years. He has a keen appreciation for traditional nineteenth-century methods. He works at a hand-built forge and frequently demonstrates his craft at Old World Wisconsin.
“At BikeBurlington it is our mission to make Burlington a bike-friendly community,” said Madonna Carr, project coordinator at BikeBurlington. “Park in the Art is a unique way that we can advocate our mission while also adding cool art to the community. We are excited to unveil this next installation!”
